What is this? This Shortlist of 1L study aids provides a quick and easy way to peruse some popular examples of various types of guides, including case briefs, outlines and test practice for civil procedure, constitutional law, contracts, criminal law, property and torts.

How is this different from the Study Aids list above? If the comprehensive study aid list feels overwhelming and you don't where to start, this shortlist is meant to provide you with explanations of different kinds of study aids, as well as some examples, so you can dive in!

What are they?

Case briefs provide summaries of cases from specific case books. Some examples include Casenote Legal Briefs from Aspen Learning Library or High Court Case Summaries and Legalines from West Academic. These ebooks below are just a selection to give you a sense of what case briefs we have for 1L subjects. A more comprehensive list can be found in Study Aids under the 1L Survival Guide.

Explanations and Outlines break down the legal concepts of a topic, offering a review along with examples or cases that illustrate the concept. Some examples include Emanuel Law Outlines and Examples and Explanations from Aspen Learning Library. Audio books from West Academic are also a popular choice, such as the Sum and Substance series or Law School Legends series. These are just a selection of some of the 1L study aids we have that provide outlines and explanations. Test practice aids offer opportunities to practice skills needed to succeed in exams. Some examples include the Exam Pro series from West Academic, with essay and objective/multiple-choice practice exam options. Other practice opportunities are also available from Aspen Learning Library, such as Glannon Guides and Emanuel CrunchTime. Below is just a selection of some of the 1L study aids we have that provide test practice and skills for 1L subjects.
