Previous Court Filings

As an alternative or supplement to using model court filings from form books, you can also locate actual court filings used in previous court cases and follow them as a model. In particular, you may want to check what pleadings or motions have succeeded with a particular judge in the past.

However, always be cautious when using real court filings as models. Just because a document was filed in court does not mean it was well-thought outwell-drafted, or even coherent. Even a successful pleading may be poorly drafted and have succeeded only because the law was clear or the opposing pleading was equally terrible.
