Federal Administrative Decisions
Administrative decisions are similar to cases but are made by agencies rather than the courts.
To find administrative decisions by federal agencies, try:
- Regulations.govProvides a large but hard to search collection of administrative decisions by federal agencies.
Select an agency under the "By Agency" heading, then select "Adjudication" under the "By Document Subtype" heading. Not all agencies provide detailed document subtypes. For those agencies, check "Supporting & Related Material" under "By Document Type" to narrow results somewhat.
Other Federal Administrative Materials
In addition to regulations and administrative decisions, federal agencies publish a variety of other materials, usually found on their websites.
Try these starting points:
- U.S. Patent and Trademark OfficeOfficial source for locating U.S. patents and trademarks. Includes a detailed patent searching tutorial.
- Google PatentsUnofficial Google database of U.S. patents. Although not suitable for conducting a rigorous patent search, Google is more intuitive for the casual user. Additionally, it pulls individual pages of patents from the patent office website and combines them into a single PDF, making it an easier resource for downloading patents.
